The Bath & West International Cider Competition sees ciders from around the world go head-to-head. The event included cider-making demos, guided tastings, and an interesting display of the latest in equipment.
More than 500 ciders competed for distinctions, and two Spanish companies made the grade. Sidra Trabanco and Sidra El Gaitero, both from Asturias in northern Spain, took home a whole slew of awards.
Trabanco received three bronze medals in three different categories. Trabanco Cosecha Propia, Avalon and Camín were distinguished for their flavor, acidity and aromas. According to the company, “It’s wonderful for your work to be recognized outside of the region… with a product that’s not always understood by panels of international judges.”
El Gaitero received six medals, three silver and three bronze, for El Gaitero Etiqueta Negra, in the traditional cider category; Pomarina Brut, in the fermented cider category; and Sidra Natural El Gaitero, in the Spanish and Spanish-style cider category, among others.
Sidra Trabanco and Sidra El Gaitero, both from Asturias, collected 10 medals between them.
