2016 Bierzo Wine Vintage "Excellent"

The tasting committee of Denomination of Origin Bierzo has classified the 2016 vintage as "excellent", after a blind tasting of 13 wines from the 2016 harvest, carried out by seventeen sommeliers, enologists and other wine experts.

The DO Bierzo tasting committee arrived at their conclusion after sampling three white wines made with the region's native Godello grapes, as well as two rosado wines, and finally eight reds made with its star grape, Mencía.

This "excellent" classification is the third in a row for this region, which is located in the northwest corner of Castile-León and known for its elegant, mineral and deeply fruity Mencía reds, and crisply acidic, fruity Godello whites.

It is also significant given that this area is experiencing growth both in terms of sales and exports – gaining acclaim for its wine making history, old vines, native varieties, microclimates and singular terroir, among other things.

White and red wines were distinguished, as were wine professionals and businesses
