DO Ribeiro, Galicia’s oldest denomination of origin, recently celebrated the 6th edition of its wine awards. The Regulatory Council presented a series of awards before a crowd of 300 trade professionals at the San Clodio Monastery in Ourense. The winners were chosen by a panel of experts.
According to the president of the DO’s Regulatory Council, “This event is particularly special because we’re celebrating all of the people that form part of DO Ribeiro. What’s more, this year we received several distinctions and we should celebrate them together.” These awards reaffirm the growing prestige and quality of this Galician wine region.
Two white wines that took home awards were Ramón do Casar Treixadura 2016 and Pazo Tizón 2016, while finalists included Alter, Divino Rei, and Leive Paragidma. As for red wines, Elisa Collarte 2016 took home the honor, and finalists included Joaquín Vázquez 2015, Viña do Campo Mencía 2016, and Señorio de Beade 2016.
The "Best Wine Service at a Restaurant" accolade went to A Mundiña, in A Coruña; "Best Wine Store" went to El Yate, in Vigo; and "Best Wine Bar" went to Bagos, in Pontevedra. Other award winners included acclaimed Master of Wine Sarah Jane Evans, Joan Gómez Pallarès, Mónica Fernández, and Arsenio Paz.
